Parade Street Authority

ERA, the Erie Housing Authority, the City of Erie and numerous private businesses have partnered to concentrate investment along the Parade Street Corridor. Often referred to as "Erie's Original Main Street", Parade Street is now an important neighborhood business district with specialized community-serving businesses concentrating on home improvement: Bauman's Carpets, Beez Appliances, Erie Estate Buyers, Nickle Plate Mills (Garden and Greenhouse), and Krauses' Hardware.

ERA's current initiatives include design of a $1.9 M streetscape project. This work includes intermittent boulevards, sidewalk replacement, traffic signal upgrades, pedestrian lighting, and street tree planting. PENNDOT has granted ERA $1.2M for this work and the City of Erie earmarked $750,000 from its  2004 Capital bond issue. Underground utility work began in Summer 2006; Streetscape work will begin in 2007.

In 2007, ERA will make over $100,000 in commercial façade improvement grants available to Parade Street businesses. ERA and the City have also engaged with are property owners to address blighted and unkept properties.
