Mercantile Building
In February 2006, the Erie Redevelopment Authority acquired the 5-story 49,000 square foot Mercantile Building, 1401 State Street, through the Blighted Property Reclamation process. Planning for redevelopment of this building began immediately. In close cooperation with the City's Department of Economic and Community Development, Erie Redevelopment Authority began negotiations with potential anchor tenants.
Erie Redevelopment Authority formed a partnership with architectural and construction management firm, Weber Murphy Fox, which developed plans calling for restaurant and retail space on the second and third floors and thirteen residential condos on the fourth and fifth floors.
Several grant applications have been submitted to close the project financing. Construction is expected to begin in 2007. Residential condominiums starting at $120,000 will be offered in early 2007.
