Little Italy Neighborhood Revitalization

ERA is partnering with HANDS, Sisters of Saint Joseph Neighborhood Network, the Little Italy  Neighborhood Watch, Saint Vincent Health Center, Trinity Center, and other stakeholders to revitalize the Little Italy Neighborhood. The Erie Community Foundation will be assisting these partners in developing a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization plan in 2007.

One of ERA's current initiatives in the Little Italy neighborhood is to repair and replace existing commercial buildings. ERA has awarded five commercial facade improvement grants to neighborhood businesses in recent years.

The Walnut Street, LP was formed between ERA and National City Bank to provide financing for  projects in Little Italy, including replacement of a demolished building at 504 West 18th Street and  renovation of a mixed-use building at 506 West 18th Street. The project was designed by Kidder Wachter Architects and is being constructed by Eriez Construction. Work began in September 2006.

Other work in Little Italy include repairs to several vacant and owner-occupied homes in this  neighborhood. HANDS, ERA and several funding partners, will begin construction of new homes along West 17th Street in the Fall of 2006.
