Mercantile Building

In February 2006, the Erie Redevelopment Authority acquired the 5-story 49,000 square foot Mercantile Building, 1401 State Street, through the Blighted Property Reclamation process. Planning for redevelopment of this building began immediately. In close cooperation with the City's Department of Economic and Community Development, Erie Redevelopment Authority began negotiations with potential buyers.

Erie Redevelopment Authority formed a partnership with architectural and construction management firm, Weber Murphy Fox, which developed plans calling for 1st floor restaurant and retail and office space on the second and third floors and fourteen residential condos on the fourth and fifth floors.

Construction on the residential condos is completed.  As of August of 2011, 7 have sold and 7 are currently for sale. The residential units still available are 1 and 2 bedroom units on the top two floors. On site parking, maintenance, security, etc. will be provided for the owners as well as other amenities that make condo living attractive.
